While the battle of Marathon is the first recorded battle where the Greeks used a phalanx, the Ionian troops would have been heavily influence by the Greeks and would of been heavily armored fighting with a sword and spear. Also since the island of Cyprus is small and mountainous there would not have been enough terrain to support a large amount of horses, so most of the troops would fight on foot. Auxiliary troops would be lightly armored slaves, or soldiers smaller fighting with bow and arrow or a light weopon
